Mad Agriculture Journal: People of the Corn
Mad Agriculture Journal features FLOWS Community Council member Andrea Yoloteotl Nawage on founding of nonprofit Harvest of All First Nations & their partnership with FLOWS. They also highlight the annual HAFN Corn Festival and how it came to be.
Harvest of All First Nation’s Corn Festival on Oct 1, 2022 was the first of its kind. Beginning with a prayer, the day-long festival brought together communities, centering ancestral traditions of Turtle Island. 4 Themes and stages focused on Environmental Justice, Decolonizing Systems, Oral Traditions and Interactive Workshops. Hundreds of people participated in the festival’s workshops, along with dancing to music, poetry, Aztec Dancers and more throughout the day.
The initial idea of having a festival began after Yoloteotl gave a virtual presentation for the FLOWS Team and community members. Her presentation stirred conversations of excitement and curiosity to reclaim to reclaim and harvest ancestral foods such as corn, within community. Two years of visioning, meetings, planning, relationship building, planting and prayer for people and land came together for the larger community on October 1. FLOWS continues to help guide the mission and vision of HAFN. The 3rd Annual Harvest of All First Nations will take place September 28, 2024.
