FLOWS on KGNU

KNGU Community Radio interviews a panel of FLOWS members, including FLOWS coordinators Magnolia Landa-Posas and Angela Maria Ortiz Roa, as well as founder Michelle Gabrieloff-Parish about why our work is integral to low-income communities in Boulder and beyond.

FLOWS program began in 2016 with Home Visits, making an impact and building relationships in our local community.

From 2016 to early 2021, prior to the thick of the COVID-19 Pandemic, FLOWS partnered with Boulder Housing Partners residents (the City of Boulder’s Affordable Housing Organization) and CU Boulder students to conduct in home visits and installations. The students and residents formed the FLOWS Technician Team and engaged door to door in pairs with residents and families.

While one FLOWS Technician spoke with those in the home about sustainability efforts, including celebrating their current practices, the other Technician installed energy efficient light bulbs, water smart shower heads, water smart faucet aerators, checked and adjusted water temperatures, refrigerator and hot water heater settings to conserve energy, toilet leaks and pipe, window and door insulation if needed.

This interview highlights FLOWS’ approach: Frontline communities are assets to environmental movements and sustainability efforts.
